DYSPORT™
(formerly known as Reloxin) is an FDA approved drug
that treats forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and
crow’s feet on a temporary basis. DYSPORT™ is
made from the same active ingredient as Botox Clostridium
botulinim toxin type A. Botox® and DYSPORT™
are both cosmetic injectables that used to temporarily
relax the muscles in the face that create frown
lines between the brows resulting over time in visible
facial lines and deeper creases.
Botulinum
toxins temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles
by restricting the muscle actions that cause creasing
and frown lines. Undesirable lines become smoothed
out giving you a more relaxed and youthful appearance.
DYSPORT™ has
just been approved for cosmetic use (although DYSPORT™
has been used safely for many years throughout Europe,
Brazil and more than 26 other countries worldwide)
and is now available at Vita Medical Spa.
Like
Botox, DYSPORT™ is administered via an injection
at the site of forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and
crow’s feet. Clinical trials have shown that 93%-95%
of patients injected with DYSPORT™ noticed
a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles within
seven days after treatment, and multiple treatments
produced effects that lasted for more than 13 months.
Although Botox®
and DYSPORT™ are similar in function, they
are not the same drug, they have different dosages
and different possible side effects. Some common
side-effects from DYSPORT™ injections are
nose and throat irritation, headaches, pain and
skin reactions at the injection site, upper respiratory
tract infections, eyelid swelling or drooping, sinus
inflammation, and nausea. DYSPORT™ should
not be used in children or pregnant women.
